Why bodybuilding?
It’s empowering to have control over your SELF.. how you look, feel, your self-esteem, self-confidence, strength….
BODYBUILDING MORE THAN ANYTHING IN LIFE WILL GIVE YOU BACK WHAT YOU GIVE !

How and why did you start ?
I grew up riding horses and I took an apprenticeship training Arabian Show Horses upon graduating from High School in 1982. At the age of 19 I moved to the U.S. to pursue my dream, as that’s where all the top trainers & horses were in the world. When I was in Texas I met my first husband Doug Young who was one of the greatest men in the history of the sport of Powerlifting. He was a 3 x world champion and 3 x world record holder in the bench press. And Doug is the one who got me into the iron world.
He had opened a gym I decided to go check it out with a girlfriend, when I walked in that gym it changed the course of my life.
I competed in Powerlifting first because Doug explained that nothing would put muscle on me faster than that. In 1990 I totalled 1118 lbs at my first powerlifting meet which qualified me for U.S. Nationals. The 1991 U.S. Nationals was only my second ever meet but I won - beating the reigning world champion by 92 lbs!
At my third meet I pulled a 501lbs deadlift which was an unofficial world record at the time. After that I turned my focus to bodybuilding, and at the end of 1991 I hired Chris Aceto to help me get ready for my first bodybuilding competition which was Nov 1992 [the Lackland Classic where Dawn placed 2nd in the middleweights – Ed]
