This is muscle mom and three times Ms Ireland national bodybuilding champion Sophia McNamara.

Sophia is a female bodybuilder with a physique so beautifully muscled and fantastically balanced you wouldn't bet against her matching Cory Everson's record of six bodybuilding titles in a row!

Incredibly the 38-year-old mother-of-two only started serious bodybuilding training in January 2009.

By April that year she had won her first RIBBF bodybuilding competition and by May this genetically gifted female bodybuilder was competing at European level. She picked up a creditable 5th place in the mixed pairs at the IFBB European Championships.

Shortly after that Sophia was invited to star in a TV documentary about female bodybuilding and she never looked back.

She has now won the Ms Ireland national bodybuilding title for the last three years and, although she is being slightly coy about her prep and plans, don't be surprised to see her on stage again this year!

She said: “I first started bodybuilding in January 2009, winning my first bodybuilding comp after just three months of training and prep.

“I started going to a gym just to socailise but realised I gained muscle fast. I was asked to do a documentary for TV and so it began, haha!

“I'm prepping now as a goal to make more improvements to my physique but I have no competition in mind as yet. I'm always in shape but this is the best I've ever been off season, so I'm very happy!”

Currently prepping for:
I am prepping now as a goal to make more improvements but I have no specific competition in mind as yet. I'm always in shape but this is the best I have ever been off season and I am very happy .

Why bodybuilding?
I first started training in January 2009, winning my first bodybuilding competition after just three months of training and preparation. I started going to a gym to socialise but realised I gained muscle fast. I was asked to do a documentary for TV and so it began.

What is your dream?
My life, my health, and my family is my dream. So long as I have that then I am living my dream daily.

What do you love most about bodybuilding?
My goals are to stay positive n never to go backwards in anything I achieve. Appreciation for life and all I have and never dwelling on what I should have.

And what do you hate the most?
Hates , are the more the achieve the less your friends want to know and the lack of support for one another .

What is the biggest thrill or moment you have got from bodybuilding?
The buzz is the support I receive here in Ireland off my supporters when im on stage n back stage.

Any training secrets or amazing exercises which have worked for you?
Ummmm secrets.. well I carb up on cakes n pastries. And despite the great glutes (if I say so myself) I have never, ever, squatted!

Kids: Son, 11 (also genetically gifted) daughter, 17.
