Kimberly Sanders is half the woman she used to be but has twice the life, thanks to an incredible fitness journey which saw her shed 106lbs (48kg).

In 2009 Kimberley was mom to Gabriel, then five, and Isaac, then two, and tipped the scales at a whopping 211lbs (105kg).

Unhappy with her physique she resolved to do something about it and embarked on a four year journey which transformed her body, and her life.

Today she looks a perfect picture of glowing female fitness. She trains six days a week and runs her own successful personal training business called Kimpossible training

She is 14 weeks out from the World Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (WBFF) Worlds in Las Vegas, on August 23, and few would bet against her bringing home the silverware.

But every journey starts with the first footsteps and for 211lb Kimberly this meant simple, and very low-level, home walking in front of the TV.

She slowly discovered one of the unassailable truths of female bodybuilding and fitness training – that with focus and consistency comes growth and development.

And from these first faltering footsteps Kimberly progressed to resistance training and cardio in the gym and discovered how empowering a knowledge of good nutrition can be.

Throw in to the mix her awesome focus and discipline (and a tigress-like desire to show her kids what is achievable through hard work) and it was only a matter of time before Kimberly threw on a sparkly bikini and took to the stage!

She said: “ I read some amazing stories in Oxygen Magazine of women who had lost great amounts of weight and competed and I somehow knew I could do it too!!

“It wasn't easy. So many times I thought Id never lose my weight. Id make gains then fall off track or the scale would stay stuck for weeks at a time.

“Co-workers and friends would try and tempt me with "bad" foods on a daily basis and some days it felt like no-one was in my corner.

“Weight loss isn't just a physical journey, it's an emotional one too.

“I've learned a great deal in the past 4 years while working to lose over 100lbs. Unlike most trainers I can say that I have actually been there and done that. I understand the emotional and physical hardships that come along with making the choice to change your fitness life.

“But it is all worth it. I wanted my kids to see the sacrifices, hard work, and passion that goes into making your dreams come true. I wanted my children to see that I am strong and I want my kids to want to be strong like me!”

How's it going/where are you at!? I am 14 weeks out and feeling great! A bit tired but I'm loving the torture!!

How many years have you trained? I have only been training 3 years

Why bodybuilding? Because I read some amazing stories in Oxygen Magazine of women who had lost great amounts of weight and competed! I knew I could do it too!!

How and why did you start ? I started with in home walking and slowly progressed to workout DVDs then to the gym.

What is your dream? My dream is to be featured in Oxygen Magazine/ Become a WBFF Pro/ Become a Motivational Speaker!

What is your short term goal right now? Win my August competition!

What keeps you motivated? The faith that I will reach my goals and inspire others to change their lives. Also my children...I want them to see the sacrifices, hard work, and passion that goes into making your dreams come true. I want my children to see that I am strong. I want my kids to want to be strong like me!

What do you love most about bodybuilding? Its an art form!! Each of us is a lump of clay that we mold with each meal, workout, and rest...there is no one right method in this sport. Everyone can make themselves great with the right amount of will power!

And what do you hate the most? How 'caddy' many competitors can get. This is a sport where we should be encouraging one another and not trying to tear others down.

What is the biggest thrill or moment you have got from bodybuilding? Standing on stage having the MC announce that I had lost 106 lbs (48kg)!!

Training

How often do you train? I train 6 days a week!

What is your program/split? This changes often but right now I am:

Monday: Chest/Arms

Tuesday: Shoulders

Wednesday: Legs

Thursday: REST

Friday: Back

Saturday: Shoulders

Sunday: Legs

What really works for you? HIIT! Ive found that my lower body especially responds to HIIT when its time to lean out.

Favorite bodypart to train and why? Back!

Biggest improvement in last 12 months? My deadlift went from 155lbs to 225 lbs!!

Improvements you are targeting? Soooo many! lol I want to be able to squat 135 for 15 reps. Deadlift 225 lbs for 2 reps. Do 10 pull ups without assistance.

What tips would you give to newbies? NEVER be afraid to ask for help if you aren't sure how to do an exercise! Form before ego!!

Any training secrets or amazing exercises which have worked for you?  Sprints and bleachers are by far my favorite!
